Removed libglib2.0-dev, cannot boot Ubuntu. Please help!

cn flag

I have made a BIG mistake. I have removed the package libglib2.0-dev on accident. I can no longer use my pc or boot into ubuntu 20.04. I am fairly new to more advanced computing. I can use terminal and basic things like that. I have a bootable usb stick with ubuntu 20.04 on it. Problem is, is I have tried everything I can think of to get the package back onto the ubuntu installation but without success. I want to avoid re-installation! Any help or questions appreciated. Need this fixing ASAP. Thx in advance.

`libglib2.0-dev` should only be required for building software from sources - afaik it's not even installed by default. Are you sure there is not another issue?

@steeldriver really? Upon removing the package all my icons disappeared and when I next tried to boot my system, It blackscreen and does nothing. I have waited for at least 10m and nothing happens. One person has said to me that it is vital for ubuntu to run and Ubuntu cannot run without it. Im so confused lmao.

@steeldriver I removed the package in software install as I was trying to update to a newer version as it was needed as a dependancy for something, and so I double clicked the new deb file which then took me to software install where it said 'remove'. I clicked on this which is when my icons in the favourites bar started changing to the gear icon then proceeded to disappear. Stupidly, I panicked and powered of my pc and when I attempted to boot it I got and still get blackscreen.

Are you sure you didn't remove one of the base glib packages instead / as well? `libglib2.0-0` or `libglib2.0-data` for example?

@steeldriver maybe, if the deb file removed all of the glib packages. Double checking it now.

Please [edit] your question with as much specific information as you can - what software you were trying to install, what the dependency was, and what "new deb file" you double clicked on

@steeldriver I have decided to re install ubuntu, by the time I have figured it out, I might as well have gone through the pain of installing everything again and restoring files. Thx anyway for your help. :-)

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
