Ubuntu fails to boot - can load recovery mode of 5.4.0-77-generic but nothing else

cn flag

I am unable to boot my Ubuntu laptop — it gets stuck on a blank purple screen when I attempt to boot normally. This issue started after the laptop crashed attempting to join a Zoom call.

From GRUB 2.04, if I select Advanced options for Ubuntu then I am presented with six options - "Ubuntu, with Linux 5.4.0-80-generic", "5.4.0-77-generic" and "4.15.0-151-generic" each of which has a standard and a recovery mode option. Of these six, the only one that works is "5.4.0-77-generic (Recovery mode)". All the other options get stuck on loading ramdisk ....

From "5.4.0-77-generic (Recovery mode)" I was unable to solve the issue, or boot normally, but I am not a Linux expert.

I made a Live USB with the latest LTS iso, but cannot boot into this either - not even with the Safe Graphics option.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
