stand alone version of ubuntu-desktop?

nl flag

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04. For some reason, when I reboot, the machine hangs and I can't get to the login screen. I've learned that this command magically fixes the problem:

sudo apt -y install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop

but it requires network access. Does there exist somewhere a .deb file that I can download, so I can dpkg ubuntu-desktop without network access?

That command magically fixes the problem *in a few circumstances*. It does not fix the problem in many other circumstances. A bit more troubleshooting might be in order.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
