Ubuntu upgrading from 5.8.0-63-generic to 5.11.0-25-generic failed to auto upgrade Realtek Wi-Fi drivers due to compile errors

After the Ubuntu upgrade from 5.8.0-63 to 5.11.0-25, I noticed that my Wi-Fi dongle did not come up and also "lsmod" did not show the module (rtl88XXau). Then, I found that the dkms folder (/lib/modules/5.11.0-25-generic/updates/dkms/) does not exist and when I tried running my install script (which was created ~1.5 years ago for this Wi-Fi product) based on probably even older source code, I hit compilation error (the error details could be shared if needed.) The same source code was automatically compiled fine during the previous Ubuntu upgrading to 5.8.0-63-generic.

I guess you could follow through something similar to what I wrote here for making a driver dkms ready that wasn't. https://askubuntu.com/a/1334101/231142 I wrote it for the r8168 chipset, but I am sure you can change it for your driver version.

Let's start by identifying your exact device. Please edit your question to show the result of the terminal command: `lsusb` Welcome to Ask Ubuntu.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
