Flashing cursor on black screen

in flag

I am currently running Ubuntu (20.04 LTS) in VirtualBox (6.1.22) on MacOS (Big Sur Version 11.5.1). I have been running Ubuntu on the VirtualBox just fine for the past several months but all of the sudden today it doesn't boot up and stops on a black screen with a flashing cursor.

As a previous question suggested, while on this page you can press 'control + option + fn + F2' and it will ask for a login. I can login and then just have the command line. How do I get back to the normal view?

Sounds like your Window manager is broken. Check the syslog and window manager logs..

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
