Problems booting 20.04 Installed on a USB

bg flag

I installed 20.04 on a USB. When I tried to boot a few times I got multiple different errors. First, I booted to the login screen, but got stuck on a black screen after entering my info. Then I rebooted and got an "mmio read of 00000 fault" error, and I ran sudo apt-get purge nvidia* and rebooted. This time I'm stuck on loading screen.

What might be the problem with my USB? Any help is appreciated.

Did you verify the .iso? What program did you run to build the USB? You may have a hardware issue. Go to https://www.memtest86.com/ and download/run their free `memtest` to test your memory. Get at least one complete pass of all the 4/4 tests to confirm good memory. This may take many hours to complete.

There are many reasons a Bootable USB may not boot, see: https://askubuntu.com/a/1190765/43926

I did everything all over again. I used Rufus to build the USB. I tried to boot from the USB from two different laptops, I chose the USB from boot options in both laptops but they completely ignored it and booted to Windows.

Is Secure Boot turned off? Did you check the USB MD5SUM? Did you press F9/F12 when booting? Did you pick the correct "partition scheme" in Rufus? Did you try "safe Boot" or "nomodeset". Does the computer meet Ubuntu spec's.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
