Turn off monitor from command line using Ubuntu Server 20.04

us flag

I'm running Server 20.04 on an old iMac. I'd like the screen to turn off so it stops wasting electricity and making my closet glow.

I've found this Turn off monitor using command line but none of the methods mentioned seem to work in 20.04.

Tried with vbetool and got this:

mmap /dev/zero: Operation not permitted
Failed to initialise LRMI (Linux Real-Mode Interface).

Tried with setterm --blank 1 and got this:

setterm: terminal xterm does not support --blank

I've set up a bunch of headless servers over the years, but never one on an all-in-one desktop. This has really illustrated how little I know about how TTYs show up on a screen when you don't have a GUI installed. Any advice would be helpful.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
