WiFi "device not ready" but `iwlist scan` works

fr flag

Running Ubuntu 20.04 on a ASUS ZenBook.

I installed the routine system updates and suddenly the WiFi dropdown says "device not ready". Strangely though, if I run iwlist wlan0 scan it correctly lists available WiFi networks.

A bit of info:

I've been a happy Ubuntu user since 2007 and this computer has been working fine for the last 3 years. Any help would be much appreciated!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
