software updater configuration for automatic current Ubuntu LTS kernel updates

cn flag

I routinely allow Software Updater to update whatever is needed to current 20.04 LTS production, including the current Ubuntu LTS applicable production kernel. At the next or few reboots after a kernel update, Software Updater has allowed the selection for removal of the previous kernel release components. As of right now, uname -r yields 5.11.0-36-generic.

During the selection process for the install, HWE choices are displayed, and I always select these. However, after this update, no choices for removal of the previous kernel are provided.

Also, is -generic the correct response if I have selected HWE? What are the appropriate "settings" within Software & Updates configuration to keep the kernel updated to the current production LTS version as new kernels are released and tested by Ubuntu for LTS?

I am not 100% sure I understand your question, but if you have both HWE and "regular" kernels installed, and wish to get rid of the "regular" kernels, this answer covers that: https://askubuntu.com/a/885582/243321

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
