How can I set sleep mode on my Ubuntu server until someone needs to access it?

cn flag

I'm using Ubuntu to run my Valheim server. Is it possible to automatically set the server to sleep mode when there is no one on the server, and to automatically wake it up when someone wants to join it?

Thank you.

What version of Ubuntu?

Doesn't matter David. This is not a problem related to Ubuntu but is a hardware problem. Your hardware needs to support suspend and another device (for instance a router using OpenWrt for instance) is needed for the wakeup call. Search for magic packet and WOL/Wake on Lan.

And to top it off: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2045541 seems to explain it pretty well.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
