Creating a Virtual Router to share my Wi-Fi connection (no Ethernet)

co flag

I am connected to the internet through a WiFi network. I would like to create a Virtual Router without using an Ethernet cable. So my internet connection is on Wi-Fi and I need to share it via Wi-Fi to other devices. Is this possible on Ubuntu 20.04?

Most questions I have come across so far here on the community are either based on previous versions of Ubuntu or have answers involving Ethernet connection (see e.g. this and this, this, and this). I have also checked this Community Help Wiki entry but it seems a bit dated and I am not sure to what extent any of this still applies to my situation.

I am also aware that Ubuntu 20.04 now has native support for Wi-Fi Hotspot but, again, this will not do either because I cannot share my internet using this method given that my connection source is over Wi-Fi.

On Windows 10 I know what I am trying to do can be easily done with software like Connectify or Virtual Router Manager. This is what I used to do before when I had a Windows machine. But now I am trying to go full Linux! :)

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
