How do I configure multiple interfaces in Network Manager?

nl flag

Ubuntu Desktop 20.04

I seem to be misunderstanding something. My workstation is plugged into wired Ethernet. When I opened NM, one interface said it was connected, so I configured that with a static address (by clicking on the gear icon next to it).

I then went and configured another static IP address on the "USB Ethernet" interface, but to my surprise, it changed the address on both interfaces. I also don't know what the "Connect" switch is for, as it only seems to allow one to be switched on. Why is this even a switch? Surely whether it's connected or not is reported by the hardware, not something to set.

How do I configure different static addresses on different interfaces?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
