How can Ubuntu be installed?

Can not install any version of Ubuntu on the eMachines E732 laptop after it crashed. The error message received is: [end Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! ext code = 0x00000009.]

Hmm ... there should be a bit more to the error explaining why there was a panic. Looking at the specs for that machine, I wonder if you have the minimum requirements for memory. Could you [edit] your question to include: (0) the version of Ubuntu you were trying to install (1) how you made the installation USB/DVD (2) the current hardware specifications. This may make it possible to understand the problem and offer a solution.

Try to find out what kind of crash it was. Hardware or software? What component/program? Can you boot the computer from a USB pendrive into a live session of Ubuntu? Which version of Ubuntu? How much RAM is there?

All data on the USB flash drive and the hard drive that was used for backup were deleted from the eMachines E732 laptop. At present, I'm using an external CD ROM drive. Using HDMI connection to TV, having also detached laptop screen. BIOS version is Intel V2017.

Ubuntu 14.04, 16.04 17.04 and 20.04 tried using USB external CD ROM drive. Removed the original drive and screen. Display on external TV via HDMI: eMachines E732; Intel core i3-370M; Intel Graphics. BIOS version Intel V2017, 12 GB memory, 160 GB WDC SATA hard drive.

Thanks for these details :-) What operating system was running when the computer crashed? That system should be possible to install and run again, if it was a software crash. Does the live system (booted from DVD) crash, or does it work, but the installed system crashes? Has the computer ever worked with the current internal drive and external monitor?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
