Installed 20.04 my Canon MG2560 not working

cn flag

Frustrated, went to Canon support, downloaded all linux drivers for MG2500, installed printer, scanner works but nothing happens when I try to print, nothing. Revert to my Windows tablet only to be told not compatible with W10. Will buying a new Canon fix my problem with Ubuntu 20 ?(I have extra ink) or are there any budget printers that will plug and play ? Although a senior I have been happily but blindly using Linux for 20 years without having to type in commands, now it seems much harder to operate.

I can't follow along with your steps. First, you listed two different model numbers. I cannot find any support whatsoever for "MG2560" on Canon's support site. "MG2500" only brings up "PIXMA MG2520 (MG2500 Series)", and when you select "Linux 64-bit", it says "There is no driver" for Linux. There are also drivers for both Windows 10 AND Windows 11 that are not even a month old. Please edit your question and clarify the exact model, and please provide more specific details about your attempts. Be specific so that we can understand what is actually going on.

And yes, there are a lot of consumer-averse practices in the printer market. Many consumer printers will just refuse to print if *any* ink is low or out. They can also have firmware that will refuse to accept non-OEM or refilled cartridges. Inkjet printers have a short lifespan especially if they are used infrequently, as the nozzles will accumulate dried ink and will stop functioning.

Nmath, thanks for trying to help, I wish I could recall my steps, I have been wrestling with my computer for about 2 weeks trying to load U20.04 over my U16.04 without losing dual boot to Windows 8, I had a dependency I could not clear that blocked any updates, eventually I just re-formatted the hard drive and installed U20.04. It's true that the Canon Pixma MG2560 does not have a specific download but it appears all the other MG25** series download as MG2500.

Ubuntu 20? There is no such release. Ubuntu uses *yy.mm* format (year.month of release) for all server & desktop releases, the *yy* being used only for IoT and specialist appliance/devices and cloud use that can use *snap* packages only. Please clarify which product you are using (*year* only releases mean a different product since 2016) Ubuntu LTS releases come with two stack choices (GA or HWE) but you've provided no details as to which you're using (drivers are kernel modules thus stack choice can make a *huge* difference) Details in title need to also be in question.

Guiverc, sorry for the abbreviation, but 20.04 was in the heading. Stack choices !? I just chose the one that sounded most appropriate for me before downloading, I'm unsure how to check what I have Ubuntu 20.04 seems very different to U 16.04. I got into Ubuntu by buying a magazine with CD attached and inserting CD into computer and following instructions whether to run program from CD or install to hard drive, easy, no need for computer fluency.

Waltinator, I have found the CUPS printer page and will try to make sense of it, thank you.

Point a browser at `http://localhost:631`, the CUPS interface, click on the "Administration" tab and add your printer there. The scanner is a separate issue.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
