Logitech M171 wireless mouse randomly stops working

cn flag

my Logitech M171 USB mouse receiver stops working randomly on Ubuntu 18.04. lsusb output is as such:

Bus 001 Device 045: ID 046d:c534 Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver

Which disappears after a random amount of time and the mouse stops working. Disconnecting-reconnecting the receiver sometimes works, sometimes not. Powering off/on the mouse while the receiver is plugged does not help at all though.

I have no other USB devices attached.

Note that this mouse does not show up as "Unifying compatible" neither on official Logitech software for Windows, nor on Solaar.

Another note is, I don't have the same problem with Logitech M515 on the same system. Also, M171 works flawlessly on Windows on the same machine (which is dual boot).

Lastly, M171 on Ubuntu sometimes stutter dramatically to the point its unusable. Dis/reconnecting the receiver also sometimes fix this problem immediately.

Distance to the receiver or the battery does not matter, I've tested them all.

The problem is similar to that of danza's post. Can you please explain how to do J. Starnes' suggestion of "rearranging the usb devices"? Any other suggestions are also appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
