cloned disk to another identical system fails to boot, GRU screen

kr flag

I've seen searched site but none give me what i'm looking for.

I am completely new to ubuntu and have been googling everything for solutions, this one I couldn't find even after weeks of looking into it.

I have dual boot ubuntu and windows on an SSD, UEFI boot. I got another same SSD model, cloned entire disk then put it into another identical system with same hardware, same disk slot but boot fails and it doesn't show boot option screen, instead it shows GRU GRUB screen. how can I fix this?

Does the cloned disk boot on the original system?

Is your target drive also GPT formated? If yes try live boot and chroot to your Ubuntu and reinstall grub

@OrganicMarble actually I just tried, it does boot but only window boot manager works. the ubuntu boot screen to choose ubuntu or window boot manager doesnt even show up. straight up booting into windows. strange thing is, on another system, it only gives GNU Grub screen, not even windows.

Sounds like the clone is bad.

@OrganicMarble do you know of any guide that has a step by step on how to clone? either via windows, or ubuntu cloning entire disk

I use the bootable tool Clonezilla Live. It has a rather intimidating 1990s style interface but it is an awesome tool. One of its options is to check the clone after you take it. Instructions here. https://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live-doc.php

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
