why isn't ubuntu showing up on my external display from my MacBook?

br flag

so for a long time i've wanted to get linux on my macbook, but my screen unfortunately broke a few months ago, so i'm forced to use an external one. whenever i try to boot into an ubuntu usb (latest version, 21.04, made using etcher) it just gives me a black screen on the external display (my lid is also closed). i have been trying to find an answer, but i couldn't find many other people having the same problem as me. if you need my specifications/the model of my mac, they are

MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020) CPU: 1,1 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i3 RAM: 8GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X GPU: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536MB

any help is appreciated!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
