Last update broke WiFi connection on my Thinkpad E595

se flag

After updating system last night (to 21.10) I lost my wifi connection. The system GUI shows only bluetooth and something that looks like wifi, but probably is bluetooth instead (see the screenshot). Clicking on it only brings "Connection failed" message. rfkill list all only lists Bluetooth device:

0: hci0: Bluetooth
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: no

How can I regain my connection?

Contact Lenovo and ask whether you need 'linux-tools-oem'. If yes, you can install install from respository.

@robgrune Lenovo shows me that they do not support this model when I try to contact them via telephone and their webchat service is not working currently in my country, so no support from their side I am afraid.

I am seeing a number of other people posting problems with Lenovo machines. All I can think of is; you install the linux-tools- ; if fail, do a fresh install; if fail, try a different distro, like Mint. Note: at start of install, you should see the network icon at top bar. If not, then the machine does not support the distro out-of-the-box. A pity Lenovo will not support.

Get into UEFI/BIOS settings and try a reset to defaults

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
