Microphone not working with microsoft snaps?

I use a work laptop (XPS-15-7590? ) on ubuntu 20.04. I have been using it for months with no issue. I have skype and teams installed via snap, and they've worked fine up until now. On Friday my team in the stand-up could only hear me faintly and "robotic-ly". I tried restarting, reinstalling teams, nothing worked. On Monday morning I tried using the camera app to record myself - sounded fine. Still not audible using the teams app. I tried teams in the browser and that was fine. That's what I've been using since.

Last night I received a Skype call after work and was already at the laptop so took it there. Same thing as teams, roboty, faint. Skype in the browser sounded fine.

So it seems like there's nothing physically wrong with the microphone, just these apps (which happen to come from the same place). Is there a shared setting somewhere that could have changed? An update last week that's just not working well with my particular laptop? I did try to search this up to see if others are having the issue, but I'm not even sure how to phrase it. Any ideas on how to get teams working happy again?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
