Cannot boot anymore on full root LUKS volume

cn flag

I have a server with a 300GB SSD set up as encrypted LUKS volume with default partitioning (all into the same place / /home etc.). Recently I started to get the / volume full with unknown stuff (it's mostly a bare bones Linux install used for CUDA workloads). I simply couldn't pinpoint what was the culprit from the terminal with various commands like df -h and complex find size args. I also couldn't install Disk Usage Analyzer, since I had no free space.

I then thought it would be a good idea to empty the /tmp/ folder, so I did. There was no change in empty space. I rebooted the server and it wouldn't present a login window anymore, and did not load the desktop environment. I escaped and paused the load sequence and here's the output:

This first part of boot up process stands out! vgubuntu volume was identified as root.

Failed to start Login Service:

The last part of the boot up process, where it hangs:

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this further?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
