I am facing an issue with my sound, and while trying to fix it I made it even worse.
It started with my rear line-out stopped working. I was connecting a headphone there using a Y splitter. So the sound is connected to line-out and the mic is connected to the Mic input. This was working fine and also the front headphone and mic was working just fine. I used them as well using the Y splitter.
At some point I got no sound from the line-out anymore. The front headphone was still working properly though.
I have looking for days for a solution for the line-out problem, and I looked in all posts that report similar issue in here and on the web. I tried all the suggestions there but nothing seem to resolve the issue, but even worse now my front headphone sound is too low. I think it is something I did with HDAJackRetask, but I tried to undo the changes done there, but I still have the same issue.
I unmuted everything in alsamixer and raised the volume to the max there.
The problem might be relevant to installing both AMD and NVIDIA GPU driver. I was testing a video card and connected both for a while. I installed the NVIDIA headless driver during that time. I started noticing this issue after that but I do not know if it is just a coincidence.
I am running Ubuntu 20.4 and the sound chip is ALC1220.
I am not sure if this would help finding the issue in hand, but here is the output from alsa-info http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=8f18f65508b6dbf4dc3fc80fbc09e83dae13c5c0
