reinstall deleted /dev/dvb directory

I'm still a noob on ubuntu. After struggeling to get DVB working (Kafeine) I was fed up with it and removed everything also /dev/dvb. Now updated to "Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS" I want to try again. In my /dev there is no /dvb. I can see my adapter with ~$ dmesg | grep 5580. I have installed DVB-tools. I have installed the driver but still no /dev/dvb. I have "Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS" installed on an external HDD but the /dev contains no /dvb. What can I do except formatting my bootdisk and start all over again?

I have followed https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/TBS_driver_installation "forked" and also the readme that comes with the tar from tbs, now I habe the "media and media_build" in both ~$ and in ~/tbsdriver$ When I try the "Digital TV setup" program, it tells me there are no cards installed or all are busy. This is a message I know from windows, the card is locked and in windows I need to eject the USB device before it will work again. How can I try that in ubuntu?

Assuming the driver is correctly installed, ejecting the usb device and reinserting it should cause the driver to load and create the devices. Check logs while inserting the device to see if that works or look for errors.

In the default config for ubuntu, /dev is dynamically configured by udevd. If /dev/dvb is missing, maybe you don't have the driver for your device loaded.

I think it's not the USB. On my win10 laptop I also had troubles with the 5580 being locked. Somehow the unit itself seems to lock. Even disconnecting USB makes no difference. Pulling the powersuppy for 10min does not work. For now it works on my win10 laptop. I have seen others giving up on this device. So I thank you for your help but for now I leave it connected to my win10 laptop.

Replugging the usb device will re-trigger udev rules which may cause the devices to be created. If the devices are not created at that point, it is likely the driver installation is not right.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
