Cannot boot into Ubuntu PPM init failed -110

tr flag

I run a dual boot with windows 10 and ubuntu 20.04 LTS on an acer swift 3 notebook. that workers just fine. However, now when I try to boot, the error message

ucsi-acpi USBC000:00: PPM init failed (-110)

shows up. The boot gets stuck at this point and I cannot do anything except for rebooting or going into tty via Ctrl+Alt+F2

This seems to be a common issue with nvidia drivers, however my system has integrated iris plus graphics and no nvidia GPU. I tried the following fixes:

  • do-release upgrade to the 21.04 version
  • disabled the touchpad as another thread suggested
  • updated grub and
  • searched for driver updates
  • disabling/enabling secure boot

I recently booted into windows after some months and ran all the recommended updates (no Win11). Maybe this caused the problems.

Does anybody know how to resolve this issue?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
