What is your Ubuntu version? How do you access its recovery? Have you tried to press Enter as an answer for "Press Enter for maintenance"?

Can you log in as a normal user and use `sudo`? Please [edit] your question to add this information, don't use comments for this purpose. On Ubuntu, normally, the login is disabled for `root`.

You can try recovering your password using [How do I reset or recover my root password?](https://askubuntu.com/questions/456663/how-do-i-reset-or-recover-my-root-password)

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
