Advantages of a separate `/home` partition: you can install a new Ubuntu release, or even an other Linux distribution, and not affect `/home`, by turning OFF formatting `/home` during installation.

Does this answer your question? [What are the pros and cons of having a separate home partition?](https://askubuntu.com/questions/142695/what-are-the-pros-and-cons-of-having-a-separate-home-partition)

I would just do everything on the SSD, optionally creating a seperate home partition if desired (see the linked question for the pros/cons). So everything is on the SSD. Then, I'd format the HDD as `ext4` with gparted, [configure it to automatically mount](https://askubuntu.com/q/164926/1438484) and manually put things on the HDD as needed.

If you need to ask, use the default. By default, Ubuntu is installed to a single partition. If you don't have a specific use case requiring additional partitions, you shouldn't add any. While it's true that a separate `/home` makes formatting your root file system easier, it not necessarily "plug-and-play" to reuse a `/home` partition on a new or different installation. Lots of software stores configs there and preexisting configs may not play well with a different set of software on a different installation.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
