fresh install of ubuntu 21.10 with zfs boot drive + encryption hangs on reboot

ph flag

i'm trying to install ubuntu 21.10 on a new work station on its own SSD, (a Ryzen 9 - 16 core cpu, x570 Asus mother board, etc), and i'm seeing a very frustrating problem that only happens when I install ZFS with encryption enabled via the default installer. Frustratingly, theres no such problem with just doing zfs install without encryption.

after i do the install via the live cd gui tool, i'm able to reboot and login into it the first time, in the whole "decrypt drive" step (albeit zfs flavored) then user login. But after that first time, the next reboot hangs after the disk decryption step where it says "cryptsetup: keystore-rpool setup successfully"

any wisdom on how to debug this or avoidthis problem while still having a reliable file system that supports encryption? :)

Hum my first installation 21.10 / ZFS / encrypted failed: no message, no passphrase asked and a white screen. Ijust ran another installation and it goes well.

You got multiple behaviors from the gui install for zfs with encryption? Based on talking with folks who are active in zfs upstream I’m leaning towards doing a cli based install so I can setup zfs a little more robustly

I just had one fail. I am using this machine for a few weeks now without any trouble

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
