What is Rest Mode? and how do i disable it?

us flag

Every 20-30 minutes a screen overlays and counts down 15 seconds. It says that it is called Rest Mode and it says i can change the settings in my settings application, but i cannot find anything on it inside of my computer settings. It gives me the option to "skip rest" but i want to just get rid of the overlay altogther. I cannot find anything on this in any forums online. here is what is diplayed

skip rest

This doesn't sound familiar to me. What version and flavour of Ubuntu are you using? Can you upload a screenshot to imgur and link here so we know what you're talking about.

Sounds like some installed software to me. Not a typical Ubuntu thing. Maybe you are actually supposed to rest for 15 seconds every 20-30 minutes because its good for you! As in look out the window and rest your eyes - this really helps reduce eyestrain :)

@topsail while i do agree, if i want to use my laptop to project any video streaming on to my television, this overlay gets in the way. i use Iris software and create my own rest schedule for computer usage.

What is your Ubuntu version and flavor? It seems that you [are running](https://github.com/danielng01/iris-translations/blob/455951634d1eb25147ba82f75cc6511fd1a04a6b/translation_toolkit/build/po/iris_en.po#L1050) [Iris OS](https://github.com/danielng01?tab=repositories&q=iris&type=&language=&sort=). So you are stoling our time by asking question about off-topic system.

This seem an [annoying](https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/m6ydy3/ctrl_alt_enter/) proprietary app called [Iris](https://iristech.co/). To get rid of this issue remove. Some alternatives are [Workrave](https://workrave.org/) and [Stretchly](https://github.com/hovancik/stretchly)

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
