USB 3 stick detected on 480M bus when plugged in after boot, but on 5000M bus before boot

cn flag

I have a strange problem on my laptop (Gigabyte Aero 15 Classic XA) running Ubuntu 21.10 (was the same on 20.04). When I plug in a USB 3 stick I get only USB 2 speeds. But when the same stick was inserted prior to boot, I get USB 3 speed.

lsusb -t confirms:

Stick connected after boot:

Any USB stick is affected. So what is causing this? How can the same stick on the same physical USB port be on different busses, depending on when it was inserted?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
