Unable to get x11vnc viewer working on a Ubuntu 20.04LTS machine

vn flag

I am struggling to get x11vnc working on a ubuntu 20.04 server.

It works ok, if I am logged into the Dell idrac and have a viewer session open. I can connect fie from the Sophos firewall and see the screen ok. However, as soon as I disconnect the idrac viewer, the VNC screen goes black.

I can get it to work temporarily, if I log onto the server via ssh and run this command

sudo systemctl restart lightdm

Which kind of makes me think it is a config issue with lightdm.

But I can't work out the connection between this and the idrac session making this work.

Regards

Puzzled and confused

How to setup x11vnc to access with graphical login screen: https://askubuntu.com/questions/229989/how-to-setup-x11vnc-to-access-with-graphical-login-screen

Thanks, it is helpful, but does not refer to the issue I have. I have followed a good guide to set it up, and it works to a fashion, but it is the teasy part whereby it connects but a black screen is present.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
