Black screen and white text on boot

I have just installed Ubuntu on my MacBook Air. I went through the standard installation, and it installed. Now it asks me for a password. I put it in, and then all I can see is command line, white text, and black background:

Picture of screen

I can type in commands like help, but I do not know what they do.

It won't power off either. I press the power button and hold it, but nothing works. I am completely new to Linux and know basically nothing about it. And I have looked for people with the same problem, but I can't find anyone with it. What am I supposed to do?

I have attached the image of the screen command line here.

and so on it goes, if you want more just ask and the ENTER just means a new line is starting

Try the command `exit` (it may not work, though).

It might show more information (before the (intramfs) prompt) when the computer starts (before you enter `help`). Also add that. It might contain some hints.

**His GRUB bootloader cannot find the root partition.** You've probably wrongly installed ubuntu. I suggest, reinstall ubuntu carefully on an empty disk.

You have not stated what version of Ubuntu you have installed or it seems tried to install.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
