Ubuntu Upgrade Login Screen - No Users Listed - psmouse serio 1 error

us flag

I recently performed "sudo apt-get upgrade" in Ubuntu 22.04 since I was getting a partial upgrade error. During the upgrade, it suddenly turned off my computer and since then, I am witnessing a weird situation.

I am getting a purple login screen with no users listed whatsoever, I tried multiple things but to no avail. When I set "AutomaticLoginEnable" to true from /etc/gdm3/custom.conf, everything runs normally. I also created another user to check if atleast that new user is listed, but still nope.

I noticed that at times I am seeing an error "psmouse serio 1 error" as well.

How do I fix the "No users listed" error? If you need any other information, let me know.

Ubuntu 22.04 doesn't yet exist; it's currently the *development* release Ubuntu *jammy* and remains that until it reaches RC state which isn't expected until after 14 April 2022, and isn't on-topic here until release on 21 April 2022. https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/jammy-jellyfish-release-schedule/23906 Please refer https://askubuntu.com/help/on-topic. For support issues with Ubuntu *jammy* you'll need to use a #ubuntu-next or #ubuntu+1 site (IRC, UF etc)

If you wish to report bugs, firstly thank you for helping test the release, but please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs and use a #ubuntu+1 site such as IRC, https://ubuntuforums.org/ etc. *This site isn't tracked for ubuntu+1 or #ubuntu-next issues* FYI: Ubuntu *jammy* is still in *alpha* though yes it's getting close to *beta*

Yes, I am aware that it a development release. Also, I don't think the issues I am experience is related to the version release. I am assuming when my system got upgraded, some gdm3 or user login issues due to which I cannot see the list of users.

Either way; support is not on-topic here as per my first comment; and issues experienced by users who *release-upgrade* early is information that is wanted; so it can be QA-tested - and this is **not** a site monitored for such things. You're off-topic here by site rules and with good reason; it's not a site used for QA & tracking of issues experienced by end-users; please read my prior comments.

FYI: `gdm3` has had issues recently; did you check if you're impacted by any of those... ie. it's a known/being-worked on issue; or you've discovered the issue currently marked as resolved still has regression issues... You specifically mention `gdm3` which has prevented login only recently!!! ie. issues that are known & thus tracked.

Welcome to AskUbuntu, when one desktop seems to be broken, you can use another. For example: `sudo apt install xubutnu-desktop` and use Xubuntu and `lightDM`. Mean while you can reinstall your favorite DE.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
