Unable to reset password of Ubuntu (can't acess Grub Menu, dual booted with windows)

in flag

I installed ubuntu on my machine as dual-boot alongside windows, during the setup I put my usual password and username I used Grub2Win to configure my dual boot menu. But I can't login as it says that I've given the wrong password. I tried resetting the password but I can't open the Grub Menu for some reason. Grub2Win always opens up. How do I access the Grub menu or reset my password some other way? This is the first time I'll be using ubuntu. Thanks in advance

Is Grub2win pretty or something??? does it have some special features? From what I have read about it, it seems like a worthless add-on (i could be wrong)... And if your problem is caused by grub2win, then I'm sure folks will be sure to flame you about it not being a ubuntu issue. If it does nothing really nice for you, and you JUST recently completed your install and never used it, it may be substantially faster to just reinstall ubuntu and forget about grub2win, just use grub/menu that is automatically installed.

@WU-TANG there was no grub menu automatically installed, I could not open Ubuntu anyway that's why I installed grub2win later, I can try reinstalling it if somebody can tell me how to get rid of the grub2win loader

if you installed ubuntu after windows, then there was most likely a grub menu installed. You just have to make it visible. You have to go into /etc/default/grub and edit it. There is a proper set of settings, but all I ever do is comment out (#) the: #GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden line... and then I make the GRUB_TIMEOUT=7 so I can have 7 seconds to see the menu. you save it and then `sudo update-grub` to update the menu settings. and you should have a menu when you reboot. As far as getting rid of grub2win, I dont really know. Did you install it after ubuntu or before?

I don't know if grub2win should be able to survive a linux install (not sure how that software works). One would think that when you are installing linux and you have it install a bootloader, that it would overwrite grub2win. There should be no harm in trying, just install ubuntu again the same way you did and make sure the bootloader is being installed... Hopefully it gets rid of it... then log in and make the changes above... also look up "configuring grub menu" for other options (if you care to learn more about it)

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
