How can I check linux server capacity from terminal?

mx flag

I'm having trouble logging into a VPS hosted on OVH via SSH, it takes a long time to connect and there is some weird behaviors on the server, such as processes are shutting down by themselves also the applications installed are not working properly and I believe that it has something to do with the given computer resources, CPU - RAM etc..

Is there any way I can measure the performance of a virtual server ? If there is one, is it possible to change it directly from the terminal ? I'm asking this question because I don't have access to the OVH account where I can do some server administration.

Thank you in advance !

I do not see based on the information in the question what this has to do with the unstated version of Ubuntu.

Your Ubuntu version is old and not supported. You cannot update your system. You probably need to reinstall. Sorry! :(

Ubuntu 21.04 (along with all flavors) is *End-of-Life* and thus unsupported on this site (https://askubuntu.com/help/on-topic), and many other Ubuntu sites, unless your question is specific to moving to a supported release of Ubuntu. https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2022/01/21/ubuntu-21-04-hirsute-hippo-end-of-life-reached-on-january-20-2022/ https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades

@FedKad I don't really get it, you mean it's better to have ubuntu 20.04 installed instead of 21.04 ? if that's the case, I will still need to check the resources given for the vps, how can I check that and is it possible to change it only from the terminal ? Also, what is the recommended hardware specifics to be given to the VPS ? thanks

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is a *long term support* release; Ubuntu 21.04 *release-upgraded* to 21.10 as was part of the cycle that started with 20.10 -> 21.04 -> 21.10 -> 22.04 that completed with the next LTS or Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Ubuntu 22.10 will be the first non-LTS in the development cycle towards the next 24.04 LTS. Ubuntu 21.04 is EOL

Minimum hardware requirements for Ubuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements. If you truly believe that your system has a problem, then read your logs. Logs are a rich source of troubleshooting information.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
