I am trying to instal ubuntu 20.4.4 in my laptop. And I keep getting this message during the instalation process input/output error during write on /dev/mmcdlk1 and the process gest stuck.

I am a very basic user, but I have installed different ubuntu versions in diferent machines throughout the years and never had this problem.

I have seen similar topics but couldn't find a solution

Is mmcdlk1 a USB flash drive or SD card?
in flag
@heynnema mmcdlk1 should be the hard drive. I'm installing from a USB flash drive

Do you have any SD cards inserted? Is mmcdlk1 a HDD or SSD? How big?
in flag
No SD cards. It's SSD, 128GB

Although it looks odd to me as the drive appears as MMC/SD card#2 (mmcblk1). But there certainly isn't any card on the slot. And the size corresponds to the HD @heynnema

Is there anything on mmcdlk1 now, or is it empty? What make/model # laptop?
in flag
14GB used. It's a brazilian made Positivo with Intel Quadcore @heynnema

Is that 14GB a bootable operating system, or something else? In the terminal, do `sudo lshw -C disk`. Copy that output to the clipboard, edit your question, paste the clipboard, select the pasted text, click the {} to format the text to human-readable format.

Windows. But after I tried installing ubuntu windows doesn't run any longer

How old is this laptop? Do you need/want Windows, or Windows AND Ubuntu?
in flag
It`s brand new. I don`t want windows at all

It's a very strange configuration. The SSD doesn't show up as a disk, but rather, as you say, a MMC/SD card #2. This makes me think that any external SD slot would show up as MMC/SD card #1. They appear to be using SD cards... just like my first comment guessed. If you start `gparted` does it see the "SSD"?
in flag
No, I just see model MMC SLD128. In fact I can`t say it is a ssd

Yeah, it doesn't appear to be a SSD, but rather, an 128G SD card. In `gparted` try and lay down a fresh GPT partition table on MMC SLD128 (this will wipe the drive), then try to install Ubuntu. Report back.

Embeded Multimedia Card. a cheap way to copya ssd. When I try to set new partition table it sends the same error message of the question. It`s probably broken. I`ll just take it back to the shop while it`s still under warranty Thank you so much for your attention!

Good luck. Report back when you get an answer.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
