Since updating to 22.04, samba has started to produce an additional log file named log.samba-bgqd, into which appr. every 12 minutes a block of 1,000 lines with errors is logged. The error messages look like this:

Any idea for what the error is and how I could fix this? I'm not noticing/getting complaints about any issues on the client side.

Also, it would be great if this logfile wouldn't just keep growing, as it is flooding my boot disk.

You seem to have only the one error repeated over and over. failed: NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND From what I see on many web sites after searching this message it is most likely caused by some recent update.

Interesting, you appear to want use guest access, by having 'guest ok = yes' set in the shares, but you have immediately turned this off by having 'public = no' set in the shares, last one wins. Are you also aware that 'public' is a synonym for 'guest ok' ? or to put it another way, the mean the same. Not that it matters, guest access isn't going to work because you do not have 'map to guest = bad user' set in the 'global' part of your smb.conf

I have the same problem. Ubuntu 22.04.1, samba 4.15.9

I haven't been able to solve this, yet. David above suggested that it might be an issue with one of the Samba updates. I guess this means that all we can do is hope for another update to fix this.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
