AVAHI: Troubles with avahi-daemon's CPU and memory usage profile on Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04; how to tighten up settings?

bd flag

I am finding that avahi-daemon is a "necessary evil" sometimes. It chews some CPU and memory up that I really don't want it to. Sometimes it's significant and runs well over 20-90%, but even when it runs under 10% it's still too much to have going when an Ubuntu instance is running in the background as a headless VM, for example.

What /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf settings could be changed to reduce resource utilization for this daemon and make it much less intrusive?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
