How to type diacritical characters on standard US keyboard in Linux GUI applications?

cn flag

Countless sites offer the following receipt:

  1. Hit Ctrl-Shift-U, release the keys.
  2. Enter Unicode code point (for example 00ed to type í).
  3. Hit Space or Enter.

Some people recommend to release only U at the first step and continue holding Ctrl and Shift down while entering the code.

Both procedures work in terminal. Not so in GUI apps like Kate or Calc, I just get 00ed (see my example above). I wonder if it matters but I use Lubuntu 20.04.

Sure thing, I can use various character mapping utilities, but I'd like to be able to do that with keyboard only. The keyboard I use does not have this Alt Gr key.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
