A really need help to configure my lab to use GUI on light workstation to connect to Server with a lot of CPU, RAM and disks...
When I was young and a student (previous century) we were using Tektronix Xterm to remote connect to server and get deported wm and X features.
Before everything we had a chooser" to select on which server we wanted to logon.
I need to get exactly the same and recycle light/obsolete linux Workstation to RUN a chooser and open a session on a server with a lot of CPU, RAM and disks.
My systems are all installed with Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS.
DNS, LDAP, NTP, SSH, UFW and all infrastructure services are up and running w/o any conflicts.
I can connect from any to any (from my user vlan on all component), and now I really need to configure clients and Servers to run as smoothly as possible with GUI.
Constraint: I DON'T PLAN TO USE RDP PROTOCOL NOR REMMINA, I really need to get concurrent users running on the same servers their activity (GCC, Maths, Sciences, devops) connected from light workstation without the requirement to first open a session from WS and then launch Xnest
or
- xhost +fqdn on the workstation
- connect to servers
- and launch command with -display 192.168.XX.YY:0.0.
or
- xhost +fqdn
- ssh username@fqdn {command_to_execute -display 192.168.XX.YY:0.0}
So if someone can help me with configuration to set on both ends (client & servers) it will be Christmas before December 24th.
PSS: workstation will become diskless workstation in a second step (only when
