MySQL service is masked

gh flag
acG

I have installed MySQL version 5.7 on an Ubuntu machine (v20.04.5). The mysql server instance runs properly for days and then on its own the corresponding mysql service becomes masked.

I then unmask the service by running the command systemctl unmask mysql.service. The service becomes unmasked but I cant run the service because the corresponding mysql.service file gets deleted.

I had this file in the diretory /usr/lib/systemd/system and when unmasking the service its gone.

Another point is that in the configuration file (my.cnf) there is a reference to this diretory: "ExecStartPre=/usr/share/mysql/mysql-systemd-start pre".

When the service was running properly before getting masked this directory existed. Now its empty. I tried to reinstall mysql and it worked for a few days only to get the service masked again after a few days of running.

What could be the cause of this? I tried disabling AppArmor but the result was the same. And on the mysql logging there is not any error.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
