No sound devices showing up in Ubuntu 20.04

cx flag

I had an issue with Ubuntu software not starting. So, I ran the following command to fix it

sudo apt autoremove gnome-software && sudo apt install gnome-software

This fixed the Ubuntu Software app but messed up my sound devices. I have tried reinstalling pulseaudio and alsa but nothing works.

Starting the daemon manually from terminal works and the sound devices start showing up. But no audio comes out of the devices.

I tried to take a look at system status and got this. $ systemctl --user status Failed to read server status: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1

I suspect that my reinstall of the software has somehow messed up something for systemd but I am not sure how to fix it.

New ubuntu user so if details are missing, let me know and I will do my best to edit and provide them.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
