Ubuntu 18.04 gets stuck on purple screen after entering password on log-in screen

cn flag

The screen goes to purple with absolutely nothing (no mouse pointer), and sticks there for hours. I restarted my Dell Inspiron 7570 (Dual Boot) after a long time, so I suspect some update might have caused this. Also it was a forced restart, since the PC had hanged.

  • I've tried nomodeset solution but still can't get past the purple screen. In tty2, the PC works fine, and I can access the data.

  • Tried boot-repair too. Grub seems to be perfectly fine, and I can boot into Windows. There is some important data in the system, so don't want to reinstall it.

Welcome to AskUbuntu. You can always use a usb-device with Ubuntu 'burned' to it ( the one you used to install Ubuntu for example ). You can use the option 'try Ubuntu' to get to your data you want to save ( e.g. to another usb-device ). After that you can reinstall Ubuntu without losing any important data. You can also try to boot your system with super_grub2_disk_hybrid.iso ( around 20 Mb ) or Ikki boot.iso ( 2,6 Gb using the same program ) to try and boot your Ubuntu from there. See if that gets you any further.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
