Forgive me, I barely know enough at this point to have gotten 22.04.5 LTS installed along with Plex Media server.
I got home this morning and had a batch of files I have been meaning to transfer to my bulk storage drives in the system. I connected up my T5 USB and drag files/folders for copy to their destination. Drive 1 had a batch of about 500GB which I selected using the GUI in one motion and drag to the destination folder. Instead of the normal 200MBps or so I see a read out of about 80MBps. Odd, but whatever. I do the same with the 1.2TB of data destine for Drive 2. It, too sustains about 80MBps instead of normal. The system is configured as follows:
Intel 12400
H610 Asus Prime motherboard
(2) 20TB Seagate Exos SATA drives, each about half full
USB-IF certified Cable Matters/Startech/Anker USB A to USB C 10Gbps cables (all verified good)
Save for the update I was prompted to do, this system has not been otherwise modified since I got it up and running. Just yesterday I transferred about 500GB to each drive, concurrently at about 200MBps a pop from this same USB SSD.
I did some searchin' and installed iotop and what I see there is the USB SSD is constantly pulling at > 400MBps but the destination drives are showing right around 50MBps. Given the amount of time it is going to take this latest batch of data being dumped I believe the GUI report of the file transfer speed of right around 80MBps to be more or less right.
What I noticed when I opened up Disks is that all of my mechanical drives in the system seem to go about 10 second with and without a ZZZ next to them. They are not synchronized as far as I can tell in their cycling, one of the drives (a 12TB WD) is unmounted and has suspend enabled in settings. The two 20TB Exos drives whose transfer rate I am concerned with have suspend and spin-down disabled (always have). They are receiving files right now and cycling as we speak as described.
I connected two other Samsung T5 SSDs and have transferred about 100GB back and forth between them and it had no effect on throughput performance to the Exos drives under way and sustained about 600MBps each try to and fro.
I am really not sure where to even begin on sorting this out. I have moved about 9TB to each drives like this since I built the machine and have not seen the described behavior in Disks or such slow transfers until today.
Thanks in advance.
