How To Switch Sound Card In Ubuntu

by flag

I am using Ubuntu Kinetic (22.10) and I think I some how messed up my sound settings. In the image below, my sound is stuck on "Dummy Output":

Sound stuck on dummy output

Then when I checked using alsamixer the output was this: alsamixer output

I then used F6 to change my sound card and it was working: alsamixer after

But this only shows in alsamixer. It doesn't show in my linux settings and I can't hear anything in any applications. I have tried the built-in video player and it doesn't work, but in Audacity it does because I can choose the output. I don't know why it isn't working in settings. I have tried sudo alsa force-reload then rebooted and I still have the same problem.

Unless you edited some config files, most of runtime audio changes won't last after reboot. So, did you try rebooting?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
