unable to boot into my machine because of lightdm, and tty doesn't help

Probably not the best title but I'm kinda going crazy here. I'm pretty sure I messed up something with my lightdm configuration (i tried to "restore" it since an apt package install told me to, don't ask), which means my ubuntu machine gets stuck whenever i try to boot into it. I tried to boot into the tty as response, but pressing ctrl-alt-F2 only brings up a blank screen with a _ cursor, and i'm unable to write anything. Going back to ctrl-alt-F1 brings back the ubuntu loading screen, and trying to get more info into what is happening (by opening the lines of text explaining what's happening in the background) just says that lightdm failed to start. I've managed to open the usb my system is running from on another machine, but now i'm unsure of what i should change. Is there a way i can edit a config file externally to bypass lightdm and boot into tty?

Just reinstall Ubuntu (you can back up files in a live session). That would be much simpler than fixing this. `I'm pretty sure I messed up something with my lightdm configuration (i tried to "restore" it since an apt package install told me to, don't ask)` -- Unless we know the exact steps you followed, we really cannot help.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
