gnome-control center fails with "Unable to initialize Clutter" on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

za flag

Full error:

$ gnome-control-center

(gnome-control-center:850129): Clutter-CRITICAL **: 11:37:01.083: Unable to initialize Clutter: Unable to initialize the Clutter backend: no available drivers found.
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Some things I tried:

$ CLUTTER_BACKEND=gdk GDK_BACKEND=wayland gnome-control-center

(gnome-control-center:850197): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 11:37:10.350: gtk_style_context_add_provider_for_screen: assertion 'GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed

(gnome-control-center:850197): Gtk-WARNING **: 11:37:10.351: cannot open display: :1
$ sudo apt purge gnome-control-center
$ sudo apt autoremove
$ sudo apt clean
$ sudo apt install gnome-control-center ubuntu-desktop ubuntu-desktop-minimal

I found questions about this happening on previous versions of Ubuntu, but not 22.04 LTS. Any ideas are appreciated!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
