Adding module configuration to initramfs to use an SDcard as a LUKS key?

gl flag

So I'm running Ubuntu on a 2011 mac mini, which has well documented issues playing nice with the SDcard reader. There's a working solution that involves adding an

options sdhci debug_quirks2=4

to /etc/modprobe.d/sdhci.conf (some people do sdhci-pci.conf instead - not sure what the difference that makes). This gets my SDcard reader working in the OS just fine.

I want to use it in pre-boot as a LUKS key however, and have adapted this tutorial for USBs to do so, adapting the script as needed and adding sdhci, sdhci-pci, mmc_core, and mmc_block to my /etc/initramfs-tools/modules file such that they should be available in preboot.

However I think my pre-boot environment isn't detecting the SDcard, dmesg shows an

mmc0: Timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.
...

error in the preboot phase that appears the same as the error I was getting before applying the debug_quirks2 fix in the OS, so I'm wondering how to apply that same fix in the initramfs environment so I can proceed.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
