I cloned a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04 with an encrypted LUKS partition to an .iso file using clonezilla. I then tried to restore from that same ISO file. The restore seemed to work, but now when ubuntu starts it drops me into an intramfs shell and if I exit from that it tells me that ubuntu-vg-root-doesnt-exist.
I understand that there are a bunch of steps that I could take to try to restore the system, as outlined here Gave up waiting for root device, ubuntu--vg-root doesnt exist
I haven't quite gotten any of them to work, but I could keep at it for a while longer.
I'm wondering if there is any way to run my clone backup and restore to avoid this problem in the first place.
In my initial clone and restore, I followed default options, allowing it to unencrypt the partition when making the backup.
Happy to provide any additional information.
Additional information:
I used restore disk, instead of restore partition when restoring.
I used the partition table from the image.
I did not check the image before restoring but I'm trying that now.
Some warning messages during the restore:
"No root partition is mounted! You'd better make sur eth erunning kernel does support the file system of root partition!
And the second time I did this I'm in. Not sure what I did, except for maybe checking the file before restoring (but it didn't find any issues when it did the check).
