how do I connect my volca sample 2 to a virtualbox VM?

gw flag

I received a Volca Sample 2 recently and would like to manage the device from my production pc, running ubuntu studio 22.10.

From my research, wine doesn't cut it because you can't use it to install the required korg usb-midi driver, so the recommendation I've seen is to use a VM. I set up windows 7 pro in virtualbox with the usb-midi driver from korg, but the volca never seems to show up on the guest.

the sample 2 shows up on the host with lsusb as Bus 001 Device 031: ID 0944:0147 KORG, Inc. volca sample

adding a filter to virtualbox with those vendor and product IDs doesn't seem to do anything, nor does using USB 1.1, 2, or 3.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
