Making a user with no login shell a member of the syslog group, how bad is it?

cn flag

I have some cronjobs that are created with sudo crontab -e that runs commands like sudo -u $dynamic_user_name command_to_run. Sometimes that 'command_to_run' is the logger command. The problem is that $dynamic_user_name does not have the permissions to log to syslog.

At this point, I don't want to mess with the permissions of /var/log/syslog. Is it OK and/or enough to make that user a member of the 'syslog' group.

" Is it OK and/or enough to make that user a member of the 'syslog' group." that is asking for an opinion and as such does not have a lot of value for the future. Asking how to do this securely would be a better fit and help others that have the same question ;)

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
