Problems removing desktop icons (22.04)

mk flag

I currently have the contents of my home directory on my desktop. I have no idea how or why; as far as I've seen this isn't standard(?).

I never use the icons on my desktop for anything, so I would like to remove them, because they are little more than visual bloat at this point.

Problem: It is a simple matter of toggling an option in Settings to remove the shortcut to the home directory from my desktop, but I am struggling to find a way to clear everything off my desktop.

Is there any hope of removing desktop icons at all, or is this just something I'll have to accept?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

EDIT : : Solved by editing ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs to not have $HOME as everything.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
